The Sir Ernest MacMillan Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce its Award for 2018, in choral conducting. This is in recognition of Sir Ernest MacMillan’s celebrated career as a conductor, in particular his many years with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (1942-1957) and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (1931-56).

The Foundation will award a prize of $4,000 to the successful applicant to Choral Canada’s Conducting Apprenticeship Program.

In 2018 the successful applicant will spend two weeks with the National Youth Choir (NYC) during rehearsals, performances and touring in Newfoundland leading up to Podium 2018, Canada’s choral conference, June 29 – July 3 2018, in St. John’s. The apprentice will study with one of Canada’s finest choral conductors, Jeff Joudrey, and have conducting opportunities in performance with the NYC. The tour will culminate with a performance at Podium.
